The DOE-NE Crosscutting Technology Development IES program focuses on the research and development of tools and technologies that will lead to demonstration of multiple integrated energy systems that have a clear path toward commercialization.
Within System Simulation, researchers are developing an ecosystem for modeling IES that could accommodate various reactor types, renewable technologies, and energy users. The goal is to develop a flexible platform for analyzing and optimizing various IES configurations in a "plug and play" environment. As a result, multiple stakeholder groups could use the toolset to conduct both technical and economic analyses (for various market structures). The outcome from these simulation activities will provide input for the experimental systems activities and down selection of technology options for nuclear demonstration.
